How can Pubs, Cafes and Restaurants plan their spaces post Covid-19?

With the government’s recent announcement that much of the hospitality industry can open on the 4th July (inc. pubs, cafes and restaurants), landlords and business owners now face the challenge of meeting ‘safe and secure’ requirements at their respective establishments. The challenge is, to accommodate the public convening at their locations whilst respecting the 1 metre distance rule, recently amended from 2 metres.

How can the drinking and dining experience be catered for at a safe distance?

The very nature of pubs, cafes and restaurants is that they are ‘social’ places. When you think of these places in the traditional sense, you imagine large groups of people standing or sitting in close proximity to others. With the new ruling in place, the approach to layout will be of key importance. For some establishments such a micro-brewery with a smaller public house, the challenge of addressing ‘space’ will be even greater one.

As your customers walk towards your outdoor spaces, not only should they rest reassured that the appropriate space has been left between tables (groups of people), but also, that your business is taking appropriate steps from a sanitation perspective.

Maintaining a safe and secure environment

The housekeeping needs to be extremely frequent, whether it be cleaning down tables or wiping down chairs immediately after people vacate spaces. In addition, your business will benefit from providing hand sanitising solutions to customers. Something such as our free-standing sanitising dispenser could prove extremely beneficial to your efforts to adhere to current health and safety obligations.

If your business is also seeking protection screens, JB also has some available here.

Our team at JB are wishing you and your business every success upon reopening on the 4th July!

In the run-up to summer, we find ourselves in an unprecedented time (Covid-19), with your business customers not being able to drink or dine outdoors in the fine weather. What is Contract Furniture?

Its what we specialise in here at JB Commercial, but we are often asked ‘What is Contract Furniture?’  By definition it is any type of furniture designed and manufactured to meet established industry standards for use in a commercial environment.

Legal Requirements

It is a legal requirement that all upholstered furniture conforms to CRIB5 Fire & Safety regulations (BS5852 Source 5) and a certificate can be asked to be produced when requested by a Fire Officer. As commercial furniture is used in public areas the fabrics and upholstery used are tested to a higher fire-retardant standard, CRIB5 – a stringent trial which tests the material’s resistance to fire.

The higher standards of fire safety demanded of commercial fabrics and upholstery provide a much greater level of reassurance to businesses. All items that contain foam or fabric or a combination are CRIB 5 certified at JB Commercial unless otherwise stated.

Durability & Longevity

Commercial furniture is thoroughly tested by companies such as FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) to ensure suitability for use in commercial environments where it will be subjected to regular use. Although it is more expensive than domestic furniture, it will last significantly longer than cheaper furniture intended for light use. In the long term commercial furniture offers better value for money and a greater return on investment.

Commercial furniture also needs to be able to look as new as possible for as long as possible, so is constructed from hard wearing materials that provide the durability and quality needed for busy commercial environments.

Health & Safety

Safety is of paramount importance in commercial environments for the protection of customers in public areas. The expense of an injury caused as a consequence of a broken or unstable furniture could result in expensive costs or payouts, and damage to the reputation of the business. Contract furniture is designed to withstand the demands made of it by busy commercial environments, and with regular maintenance and care will last for many years. We provide practical advice about maintenance and solutions for preventing or removing damage on our blog and with the sale of contract furniture, making it easier for you to keep contract furniture in top condition.

The choice and variety in modern commercial furniture, with its almost limitless design possibilities and wide range of attractive materials provides venues with exactly the kind of stylish interiors desired without having to compromise on resilience and stability.

We have been supplying range of design-lead, high quality contract furniture for over 15 years, consistently, adding innovative, stylish and functional contract furniture to our website.

We have worked with airports, theatres, museums, offices, care homes, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and businesses of all sizes in the hospitality industry supplying quality contract furniture for all manner of venues.  Why not chat to us about your contract furniture requirements?
